AMF partners – Institute for Adriatic Crops and Karst Reclamation together with Sibenik-Knin County have organized a local workshop in the city hall of Dalmatian town Drnis. The main goal of the local workshop was introduction of project info and principles of Model Forest in Dalmatia. During the previous workshops stakeholders expressed their interest about medicinal herbs, so education about proper way of harvesting and its usage was organized. Medicinal herbs education was oriented mainly in two plant species – sage (Salvia officinalis) and immortelle (Helichrysum italicum). Their healing properties, their proper usage and the legal limitations for sustainable harvesting in natural environment were presented by two experts. Great debate was developed about sustainable ways of cultivating immortelle in Model Forest territory. The interested audience consisted of members of the local governments of Sibenik-Knin county, City of Drnis, Municipality of Kijevo as well as Croatian Forests ltd and the educational institutions (such as Drnis Vocational High School and Public Open University). There were also many individuals, as family farm owners, who wanted to learn more about new opportunities of growing medicinal herbs in the territory of Adriatic Model Forest. The Local action group representatives were mostly interested about protection and sustainability of natural plant harvesting and better control of pickers. Local workshop was very successful with more than thirty participants interested in Model Forest future functioning, but also because of education and development of communication with other MF stakeholders through Adriatic Model Forest project.
