The Region of Epirus/Regional Unit of Thesprotia as a partner of the European project «Adriatic Model Forest-AMF» which is co-funded by the Axis 2 the European Initiative IPA ADRIATICA 2007-2013, organizes a three-day meeting entitled «The governance in a Model Forest: exchange of experience» from 11th to 13th of February 2014. The meeting will take place at the city of Igoumenitsa and will include presentations from AMF partners and local stakeholders as well as a field trip to the region of Western Macedonia, in order to visit and study the local “Model Forest Grevena”
The Model Forest can be defined as a new and initiating tool of territorial governance oriented for the sustainable development of selected territories. Main characteristic of such type of model is the forested area as far as the consistency and cooperation of all the institutions and enterprises involved.
For a better perception of the Model Forest, it is important to understand it as a “proceeding of development based on the collaboration through which, people and groups with different values, work together with common vision for the sustainable development of a region, in which forests constitute an important component”.
Main component of the functioning of Model Forest is the continuous and uninterrupted effort to mitigate conflicting interests and objectives existing between organizations and enterprises in order to bring a sustainable development and protection of environment.
