Model forest „River Mirna basin“ that had an constitution assembly with 38 founders several months ago, has officially entered in Register of associations 11th of July and has become a first model forest association in Croatia.
Model forest „River Mirna basin“ in Croatian region of Istria covers 110 000 hectars of the Istrian peninsula and includes four cities and twelve municipalities of the northern and central parts.
Territory is diverse and representative for Istria as a whole with a part of the Adriatic coast, agricultural land, river valley, forests of the mountain chain and sub-Mediterranean forests rich with aromatic and wild plants.
Model forest „River Mirna basin“ structure involves five working groups that gather stakeholders with same interest and needs.
- Forestry and renewable energy resources;
- Agriculture, livestock breeding and sustainable development;
- Non wood forest products valorisation;
- Rural and cultural tourism;
- Education, communication and nature protection.
Now after the formal registration, working groups will start to work in continuity on the strategic plan elaboration following the Mediterranean model forest methodology.
It is expected to have approved Strategic plan of the model forest „River Mirna basin“ by the end of the 2013 and launch a candidacy for the International model forest network membership.
