Second workshop with local stakeholders in Albania was organized in Voskopoja center from 14th till 16th March 2014. Title of the meeting was “Public participation in the Model Forest development”. Important accent was given to the women integration in the Model Forest process and forest sector development in general. Around 45 personshave participated from: Agricultural University – Faculty of Forestry Science, Tirana; Fan. S. Noli University in Korca, Local Government of Korca District, representatives from Environmental Ministry – Forest Service Directory in Korca district, Ministry of Integration, Albanian Technical Assistance, Programme IPA CBC Adriatic, Voskopoja commune administration and than different associations and NGOs (agro-tourism association, hunting, ski, beekeeping, private land and forest owners, women associations, student girls association , household women’s, women’s involved in economic different activities, etc.), representatives from religion in Voskopoja, private persons, etc.
14th of March after the openings Prof. As. Dr. Irena Kallco, Universiteti F.S.Noli, Korce was speaking about women’s participation in the forest sector development in her presentation titled “The participation of women in the social and economic activities, a necessity for AMF».
Next, Prof. Dr. Vath Tabaku from Agricultural University, Faculty of Forestry Science, Tirane has presented “Contemporary concepts for governance and sustainable management of forests and natural resources”.
Prof. Dr. Hajri Haska from Agricultural University, Faculty of Forestry Science has spoken about “Some of the key concepts and guiding principles of the Model Forests Governance – Guide to Model Forest Governance”.
The last presentation in the morning session was from Ministry of Integration, Albania Technical Assistance, Programme IPA CBC Adriatic about “IPA projects, their importance and implementation, in Albania».
The presentation session was followed by the open discussion by the participants with an aim to analyze problems and challenges for the future model forest in the context of the Municipality of Voskopoja.
Prof. Vath Tabaku did the conclusions and the workshop afterwards was continued with a demonstration of the cultural and natural heritage of Voskopoja.
Workshop was very important to initiate local model forest process because there was a great variety of participants and also of the new stakeholders. Women participation was very important in debate about their role in forestry sector and about concepts in relation with Model Forest.
Local stakeholders gave their concerns about management of natural resources in Voskopoja commune and have shared plans about important directions for the future work.
