The AMF partner, Municipality of Ferrara, has organized a series of local stakeholder meetings with an objective to involve as many people from the different areas of the Province of Ferrara. Local meetings were held at western, central and eastern part of the Province. It is noteworthy that people who do not mutually know each other have expressed a common vision of the territory and a plan for a better quality of life for the current and future generations.
On the 25th of March 2014 the local meeting was held in the western area, in the village of Porporana. The meeting was attended by 16 stakeholders that represent a variety of interests, such as environmental associations, volunteer guards, private enterprises, reclamation consortium, mycological associations, garden designers and single citizens with the passion for nature.
From the topics emerged, the main issues that concern stakeholders were conservation of the territory, creation of the rules for conservation of the water resources which represents the Province.
Stakeholders from Ferrara want to create a network of nature areas and then share and benefit from the knowledge of natural values.
The needs of the present stakeholders are; environmental and landscape restoration projects that support biodiversity, inventory of state properties that need reforestation or environmental regeneration, increasing farmers’ awareness for an integrated management of public and private spaces.
The common vision of the territory is integrating tourism with increase of air, water and landscape quality.
They want to bring new jobs and new approaches in school and university environmental education.
On the 17th of April 2014, local meeting was held the in the central area of the Ferrara Province, in the village of Copparo. The meeting was attended by 10 stakeholders representing different backgrounds such as mycological, environmental and hunting associations, representatives of the Municipality, primary school teachers and citizens with the passion for nature.
The main issues emerged were decrease of natural damage and preservation of the environment and participation of citizens in common environmental project.
The needs of the participants are; a general improvement of all human and natural activities that are linked with the environment and to increase knowledge of the natural resources.
A common objective is to fully use the potential of the territory in a sustainable manner.
The expectations identified are the preservation of natural habitats and of autochthonous fauna, improvement of the information flow on the characteristics and environmental resources of the area and improvement of the infrastructure for tourism.
On the 13th of May 2014, a local meeting was held in the eastern part of the Province Ferrara – in the village of Bosco Mesola. The meeting was attended by 20 stakeholders. The people attended the meeting have represented the group of community maps, environmental associations, private enterprises, workers in the fishery industry, students and citizens with the passion for nature.
The most important topics discussed were raising awareness about the natural richness of the territory and a possibility of having an exchange of experiences with similar territories. Stakeholders want conservation of forests and of the environment that need to be valued but not over-exploited, sustainable development of tourism and agriculture and to strengthen human contact with nature.
The recognized needs of the stakeholders are; valorization of the territory, optimization of the use of the resources, realization of a model forest pilot site that can become a point of reference for tourism and quality of life in the community.
A common vision of the territory is conservation of biodiversity, improvement of typical agricultural production, recovery of cultural traditions and ancient products such as traditional recipes, children games, use of hemps for fibers and fishing. One important element identified is aesthetic value and perception of the beauty of the territory as a tool to improve the life quality for the present and future generations.
